Warrior Mountain Range Located off of Cresap Mill Road in Oldtown
This range offers shooting up to 600 yards. There are actually 2 ranges in one.
The first range offers a 100-meter covered firing point where the impact area is the base of the 600-yard firing line.
The second and the older configuration is a 600-yard range offering shooters the ability to shoot 100, 200, 300, 500, or 600 yards.
The 300-yard firing line is covered and has 4 benches. From the 300-yard firing line shooters can fire 100 yards at the impact area located on the left side of the range. Shooters may also fire 200 yards into the large berm on the right side of the range. 300 yard shooting is done using the target carriers located in what is called “the pits”. At the impact area there is a shed containing target frames that are to be used for the target carriers. Shooting into the berm in front of the wall is PROHIBITED! The 600-yard firing line is used for 500 and 600 yard shooting. It is 300 yards behind the 300-yard position mentioned above and uses the target carriers in the pit. 500 yard shooting is done by shooting into the “200 yard” berm as mentioned above. 600 yard shooting required some extra precautions for safety. The requirement for shooting from the 600-yard position is a minimum of 3 people. One (1) shooter, one (1) spotter/lookout at the 600-yard firing line and the 3rd person located in the pits.
Also required is a method of communication such as 2-way radios between the firing line and the pits. A backup plan should be considered and communicated just in case the radios fail. Such plans usually include that the person in the pits stay there until the line is safe and the shooter comes down to the pits to unseal it. Most 600 yard shooting is done with service rifles, but the F-class is growing. It is recommended that the first time 600-yard shooters come with and experienced person who can help them get familiar with these procedures. Any safe shooting position is permitted at this facility. Target frames are provided, but shooters must provide their own targets. The range officer is Dave Thompson. |
